I thought it was the same engine for D2,D3,D4 as the only difference was the compression ratio. For auto trans, D3 has a 6 speed an D4 has an 8 speed, not sure on the D2 but guessing the 6 speed. D2 Engine - D4204T8 delivers 120 PS (88 kW; 118 hp) at 3750rpm and 280 N·m (210 lb·ft) of torque between 1500–2250rpm.

The Powershift automatic gearbox transmits the motive force from the engine to the drive wheels with double mechanical clutch discs, as opposed to Geartronic which instead uses a hydraulic torque converter. The V40 was given a mild facelift in 2016; if you want one of these cars, you’ll need to stump up at least £7000. Spend between £10,000 and £15,000 on good cars from 2017 and 2018.
The V40 hatchback is the brand’s entry-level car and, as such, it’s unsurprisingly the best-selling car in its stable. It’s recently undergone a mid-life refresh, so it now has the ‘Thor’s hammer’ headlights first seen on the XC90, as well as minor aesthetic tweaks such as a new grille mesh design and updated Volvo logo.
