Alternatives: In the middle-weight adventure bike category, the 701 Enduro’s direct competitor is the KTM 690 Enduro R, seeing as that’s what the Husqvarna is based on. The engine in the Husqvarna gives it a leg up being that it’s Lap Two. KTM 690 Enduro R. Taller, firmer and slimmer – and that’s just the seat! Although the spec sheets suggest that the bikes are the same height, they aren’t. Where the Husky felt like a trailbike the KTM feels more like an oversize competition machine. They also discontinued the 690 E model. The seat height and suspension of the 690 R were lowered. Also among the 2012 changes, a tachometer was added and the headlight was improved. In 2014, the KTM 690 R received standard ABS brakes in both the front and rear, along with a ride-by-wire throttle and dual-spark head. Seat. The KTM 690 SMC R’s seat height is 890 mm for ease of access without sacrificing lean angle, while the seat material is finely grained for grip with leather suits. Handlebar. The lightweight tapered 808 mm wide handlebars are rubber mounted to reduce vibrations. Their width and shape are aimed at providing optimum control in all situations.
